How these pages are written
Each comparison uses the other provider's own public pages, checked in October 2026 and linked under Sources. What we could not confirm from a primary source is left out.
Prices are quoted as each provider lists them. HonkIO Auth's prices are in CAD; the others list prices with a $ sign, in USD where they say so.
Trying HonkIO Auth
Standard OpenID Connect, so any OIDC library works.
HonkIO Auth uses the OpenID Connect authorization code flow with PKCE, so your app talks to it through an OIDC library you may already use, such as openid-client, Auth.js, Authlib or Socialite. Test apps are free, get every feature and send nothing.
Questions
- Which sign-in providers can store user data in Canada?
- Of the providers compared here, as of October 2026, Auth0 (with its Canada tenant locality) and Amazon Cognito (in Canada Central and Canada West) can, and HonkIO Auth stores user data in Canada for every app. Clerk, Firebase Authentication and Stytch run on US infrastructure.
- Does stored in Canada mean the data never leaves Canada?
- Not for HonkIO Auth. Users' data is stored in Montréal, and requests are processed on US-hosted infrastructure while they are served. HonkIO's providers are US-owned companies.
- Why are the prices hard to compare?
- Each provider counts users differently. HonkIO Auth counts users who sign in on a later day than they signed up, Clerk counts monthly retained users, and the others count monthly active users. HonkIO Auth also charges a flat fee per app in CAD.
