HonkIO is home: the whole platform now runs in Canada

Your data was always stored in Canada. Now the servers that handle your requests are here too: the whole HonkIO platform runs in a data centre in Quebec.

Big one for us: HonkIO now runs entirely in Canada.

Your data has always been stored here. But until now, the servers that actually handled your requests lived in the United States, so every text you sent and every code you verified took a quick trip south before coming home to be stored. We were upfront about it in our privacy policy, but it never sat right with us.

So we moved. The whole platform now runs in a data centre in Quebec: the API, the dashboard, HonkIO Auth sign-in and our tools for AI agents. Your requests are handled here, your data stays here, and fewer foreign companies are involved in handling them.

We're pretty excited about it. It's a real step toward a more sovereign Canadian platform, which is what we set out to build in the first place.

What you'll notice

Honestly, not much, and that's the point:

  • Nothing to change: your API keys, numbers, webhooks and prices are exactly the same
  • Snappier responses: the app and its data now live side by side
  • Less paperwork: if you deal with Quebec Law 25 or public-sector requirements, you have one fewer cross-border transfer to explain

The fine print

A few things still cross the border because that's how they work: texts travel through carrier networks, push notifications go through Apple and Google, and an email goes wherever its recipient's inbox is. So we'll keep saying "stored in Canada" rather than "never leaves Canada". It's just a lot closer to that now.

Our privacy policy and data processing agreement have been updated to match. If you accepted the agreement in your dashboard, you'll be asked to accept the new version in Settings.
